자동사 : lie - lay - lain -lying - 눕다, 놓여 있다. ~에 위치하다.
타동사 : lay-laid - laid -laying - 놓다, 두다, 낳다.
cf. lie - lied - lied -lying 는 자동사로써 '거짓말 하다'라는 단어도 있습니다.
위 세가지를 기억해두어야 합니다.
자동사는 그 이름 그대로 뒤에 목적어가 없습니다.
타동사는 뒤에 목적어가 있습니다.
이러한 점을 염두해 두어야 합니다.

위의 문장을 살펴보면 lie 뒤에는 명사가 없습니다. 즉 자동사라는 의미입니다.
자동사로써의 의미는 '눕다'라는 의미입니다.
이 자리에 lie 대신 lay가 오면 틀립니다.

(lay는 타동사이므로 뒤에 목적어가 필요해서 없기때문에 틀립니다.)
지금은 기억이 잘 날 수 있어도 어느 정도 시간이 지나면
기억이 희미해 질 수 있으므로 정기적으로 복습을 통해서 기억해야 합니다.

위의 문장은 잘못된 문장입니다.
lie는 자동사 이므로 뒤에 명사가 목적어로 올수 없는데, 'the keys'라는 명사가 왔으므로 잘못된 것입니다.
아래와 같은 문장으로 바꾸는 것이 좋습니다.

물론 lay 말고 place 또는 leave라는 단어를 사용해도 됩니다.

이 문장에서는 '자동사' 로 거짓말 하고 있다는 의미 입니다. - She carefully laid the table for dinner, setting out the plates and silverware.

위 의 문장에서 laying은 잘못되었습니다. lay는 타동사로 뒤에 목적어가 필요합니다.
